In terms of marine life, the dolphins and whales have always been lauded as the most intelligent. It is only now that some of that praise is being bestowed upon the octopus. They don't lack in the personality department either as shown in this article.

The official theory is that this curious octopus fiddled with a valve and flooded the office. Personally I believe it was aiming for something better. I think that thing was trying to escape. Had that thing been successful the movie re-enactment would be the octopus version of Deep Blue Sea.
